Stephen Boyd (4 Jul 1931 (Glengormley - 2 Jun 1977 Northridge, Los Angeles), born William Millar, was a Northern Irish actor best known for playing Messala in Ben Hur (1959), a role that won him a Golden Globe. Active from the mid-1950s to 1977, he appeared in acclaimed works such as The Fall of the Roman Empire, Fantastic Voyage, and The Bible: In the Beginning.... Often cast in historical epics or as complex villains, Boyd’s charismatic screen presence made him a notable figure in both Hollywood and European cinema.
