Arthur Garfield Dove ( 2nd August 1880 - 23rd November 1946) was an American modernist and pioneering abstract painter, often credited as the first in the U.S. to create purely non representational art. A key member of Alfred Stieglitz’s circle, he transformed nature’s forms, sounds, and rhythms into abstractions using innovative media combinations. His works such as Me and the Moon and Foghorns distilled natural essences through colour, shape, and texture, influencing artists like Georgia O’Keeffe and later Abstract Expressionists.
