Gillette Alexander Elvgren (15/03/1914 - 29/02/1980) was an American painter and one of the most celebrated pin-up and commercial artists of the 20th century. Active from the 1930s to the 1970s, he produced over 500 oil-on-canvas works, notably for Brown & Bigelow calendars, Coca-Cola, and major magazines like The Saturday Evening Post. Mentored by Haddon Sundblom, Elvgren developed a technically refined style that blended realism with playful idealization, often portraying approachable “girl-next-door” figures with warmth, humour, and vibrant colour. His art defined mid-century American pin-up aesthetics and remains highly collectible today.
