Ernest Borgnine (24 Jan 1917 Hamden, Connecticut - 8 Jul 2012 Los Angeles, California), born Ermes Effron Borgnino, was an American actor whose six-decade career spanned film, television, and voice work. Known for both tough-guy roles and gentle leads, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Marty (1955) and starred in McHale’s Navy and Airwolf. Other notable works include From Here to Eternity, The Dirty Dozen, The Wild Bunch, and voicing Mermaid Man in SpongeBob SquarePants. A WWII Navy veteran, he remained active until his death in 2012 at age 95. He is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
