Charlton Heston, born John Charles Carter (4 Oct 1923 Evanston, Illinois - 5 Apr 2008 Beverly Hills, California)was an American actor and political activist famed for epic roles in films such as The Ten Commandments (1956), Ben-Hur (1959), which won him an Academy Award, and Planet of the Apes (1968). Active in civil rights activism in the 1960s, he later championed conservative causes as NRA president. His commanding presence and portrayals of historical figures made him a Hollywood icon for over six decades. He is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
