Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. (16 Apr 1889 London - 25 Dec 1977 Corsier-sur-Vevey) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer famed for his silent-era persona, the Little Tramp. Born in 1889 into poverty in London, he rose from music halls to become a global icon with classics like The Kid, The Gold Rush, City Lights, Modern Times, and The Great Dictator. A pioneer blending slapstick with pathos and social commentary, he faced political controversy and exile, later honoured with an Honorary Oscar and knighthood. He is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
