With a career spanning stage, film, radio, and television, he became a defining figure of classic horror, also starring in The Mummy (1932) and voicing the Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966), earning a Grammy. Renowned for his gentle off-screen nature, he amassed over 170 film credits and two Hollywood Walk of Fame stars.
