Sir Alec Guinness (2 Apr 1914 Maida Vale, London - 5 Aug 2000 Midhurst) was an acclaimed English actor of stage and screen whose chameleon-like versatility brought him an Academy Award for The Bridge on the River Kwai and global fame as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars. He starred in Ealing comedies like Kind Hearts and Coronets, collaborated with David Lean on six films, and won a Tony for Dylan. Knighted in 1959, he was celebrated for disappearing into roles with unmatched nuance. He is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
