Alan Walbridge Ladd (3 Sep 1913 Hot Springs, Arkansas - 29 Jan 1964 Palm Springs, California) was an American actor and producer best known for his cool, understated persona in 1940s film noir and Westerns. Rising to fame with This Gun for Hire (1942) opposite Veronica Lake, he starred in classics like The Glass Key, The Blue Dahlia, and the iconic Western Shane (1953). A top box office star of his era, his later years were marked by personal struggles, and he died in 1964 at age 50 from an accidental alcohol and sedative overdose. He is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
