Clara Gordon Bow (29 Jul 1905 Brooklyn - 27 Sep 1965 Culver City, California) was an American actress who rose to fame in the 1920s silent film era and became Hollywood's first “It Girl” after starring in It (1927). Known for embodying the flapper persona, she appeared in 58 films including Wings (1927), the first Best Picture Oscar winner. At her peak, she was a top box-office draw, but personal scandals, mental health struggles, and the pressures of fame led to her retirement in 1933. She later lived quietly in Nevada with husband Rex Bell. She is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
