Eugene Curran “Gene” Kelly (23 Aug 1912 Pittsburgh - 2 Feb 1996 Beverly Hills, California) was an American dancer, actor, singer, choreographer, and director who revolutionized the movie musical with his athletic, balletic style and relatable charm. A Broadway star in Pal Joey, he became a Hollywood icon in Singin’ in the Rain, An American in Paris, and On the Town, earning an honorary Oscar in 1952. His innovations, including dancing with animation in Anchors Aweigh, redefined screen dance and inspired generations.
