Susan Hayward (30 Jun 1917 Brooklyn - 14 Mar 1975 Hollywood, Los Angeles), born Edythe Marrener, was an American actress renowned for portraying strong, complex women, often based on true stories. After early modelling work and minor roles, she rose to fame with five Academy Award nominations, winning for I Want to Live! (1958). Her acclaimed performances include Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman, With a Song in My Heart, and I’ll Cry Tomorrow. She remained a major Hollywood star of the 1940s–50s until her death from brain cancer in 1975. She is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
