Das Boot follows the crew of German submarine U-96 on a dangerous World War II patrol, capturing the tense monotony, claustrophobic life, and sudden peril of the Battle of the Atlantic. This gripping war drama is praised for its realism, immersive sound design, and human portrayal of soldiers beyond ideology. Widely acclaimed, it earned six Oscar nominations and became one of the most successful foreign-language films ever.
