Alphonse Mucha (24th July 1860 - 14th July 1939) was a Czech Art Nouveau painter, illustrator, and decorative artist famed for his stylized posters of Sarah Bernhardt and idealized female figures. Active mainly in Paris, he produced paintings, advertisements, set designs, and jewellery. Later, he returned to Czechoslovakia to create his monumental cycle The Slav Epic (1912–1926), celebrating Slavic history, which he considered his life's work.
