Rita Hayworth (17 Oct 1918 Brooklyn, New York City - 14 May 1987 New York City), born Margarita Carmen Cansino, was an American actress, dancer, and 1940s Hollywood icon dubbed “The Love Goddess.” Rising from a family of dancers, her career soared with roles in Only Angels Have Wings, Blood and Sand, and the film noir classic Gilda. A WWII pin-up and AFI top-25 legend, her glamorous screen image contrasted with a turbulent private life of five marriages. Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 1980, she died in 1987, bringing global attention to the disease. She is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
