Modern artist Henri Émile Benoît Matisse was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. During the 1920s Henri Matisse’s principal subject was reclining nudes situated within a decorative setting inspired by the Islamic art he discovered during his trips to Morocco in 1912 and 1913.
