Edward Hopper was an American realist painter and printmaker and was a minor-key artist, creating subdued drama out of commonplace subjects that invited narrative interpretations. In 1950 he produced ‘Portrait of Orleans’ depicting the intersection between Route 6 and the Main Street in Orleans, Massachusetts.
