Edward Hopper was an American realist painter and printmaker and was a minor-key artist, creating subdued drama out of commonplace subjects that invited narrative interpretations. In 1927 he produced ‘Hill and Houses, Cape Elizabeth, Maine’ which features two houses both on a hill.
