Susan McDonald is an American artist based in London and Miami. Her early calligraphy-infused work was influenced by her time living and working in China and Japan in the 1980’s and 1990’s. This led her to create her own idiosyncratic, non-conformist ink paintings, using fragments of Japanese characters and symbols. Largely self-taught, she constantly expands her practice by experimenting and playing. Her abundant life experiences continue to inspire fresh avenues of exploration and discovery.
