Spotlight on Fine Artist William Morris

William Morris’s ideas about the relationship between art and society directly inspired the Arts and Crafts movement which centred on quality, beauty and accessibility. His influence on design has also been felt internationally, inspiring artistic movements in The United States (1890-1916), Europe and Scandinavia (1880-1914) and the Mingei movement in Japan (1926-1945). William Morris (1834-1896) was, among other things, a textile designer and artist closely associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. He contributed significantly to the revival of traditional British textile arts and production methods. Morris was recognized during his lifetime for his contribution to Victorian poetry.
