Gloria May Josephine Swanson (27 Mar 1899 Chicago, Illinois - 4 Apr 1983 New York City) was an American actress and producer who became one of the biggest stars of the silent film era and a Hollywood fashion icon. Known for sophisticated comedies with Cecil B. DeMille, she earned three Oscar nominations, including for her legendary comeback in Sunset Boulevard (1950). A pioneering female filmmaker, she also produced works like Sadie Thompson (1928) and left a lasting mark on film, television, and stage.
