Modern artist Jackson Pollock was a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. Pollock was widely noticed for his "drip technique" of pouring or splashing liquid household paint onto a horizontal surface. In 1947 Pollock produced ‘Lucifer', one of the first artworks in which Pollock used his ‘drip technique’. Pollock named the piece ‘Lucifer’ as he saw it as a 'beautiful angel who had fallen from heaven’.
