Modern artist Henri Émile Benoît Matisse was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. ‘The Lagoon: Maquette for Plate XVII’ was produced for Henri Matisse’s art book ‘Jazz’, produced by publisher Elf Tériade. This print was inspired by the luscious vegetation Matisse observed during his trips to Tahiti.
