Modern artist Henri Émile Benoît Matisse was a French visual artist, known for both his use of colour and his fluid and original draughtsmanship. A top section shows the eponymous mask, which is jagged in shape. The remainder of the image is divided into quarters featuring differently coloured frond shapes familiar from other Matisse cut-outs.
