Mary Louise Brooks (14 Nov 1906 Cherryvale, Kansas - 8 Aug 1985 Rochester, New York) was an American actress, dancer, and writer famed for her bobbed hairstyle and iconic flapper image. Rising from the Ziegfeld Follies to Paramount films, she achieved international stardom in G.W. Pabst’s Pandora’s Box (1929) and Diary of a Lost Girl (1929). After retiring from acting in 1938, she later gained acclaim as a film essayist, publishing her memoir Lulu in Hollywood in 1982. She is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
