Eleanor Torrey Powell (21 Nov 1912 Springfield, Massachusetts - 11 Feb 1982 Beverly Hills, California) was an American dancer and actress celebrated as one of MGM’s top stars of the 1930s–40s and often called the “world’s greatest female tap dancer.” Known for her athletic, intricate footwork blending tap, ballet, and acrobatics, she headlined films like Born to Dance, Broadway Melody of 1938, and Broadway Melody of 1940 with Fred Astaire. She later worked in television, nightclubs, and ministry, leaving a lasting legacy in dance. She is part of the golden age of Hollywood and the silver screen series of photographs.
