Mark Rothko was a Latvian-born American abstract painter and was associated with the American abstract expressionism movement of modern art. The original painting by Mark Rothko, 'Untitled No.17' is over two metres high. Through this large, immersive scale Rothko wanted his work to engulf the viewer in fields of colour.
