L.S Lowry is recognised for his portrayals of busy industrial scenes filled with colourful stylised figures often referred to as 'matchstick men'. However, later on in his career Lowry turned his attention towards groups of individuals with little or no architectural landscape. This print is colour matched to the original painting and approved by The Lowry. Every purchase supports the work of the gallery.

Painted in 1953, 'Going to the Match' by L.S. Lowry shows football fans at Burnden Park, Bolton, the then home of Bolton Wanderers football club, a ground only a few miles from Pendlebury in Salford. Lowry was a huge football fan and regularly attended Manchester City matches.
