Mark Rothko was a Latvian-born American abstract painter and was associated with the American abstract expressionism movement of modern art. Rothko produced ‘Untitled (Violet Black Orange Yellow on White and Red)’ in 1949 a white canvas painted with blocks of rectangular colour in yellow, orange, red, and black painted horizontally onto the surface.
