Mark Rothko was a Latvian-born American abstract painter and was associated with the American abstract expressionism movement of modern art. Rothko produced ‘Untitled’ in 1949, a yellow canvas with blocks of rectangular colour including maroon, black and green painted horizontally onto the surface.
