Edward Hopper was an American realist painter and printmaker and was a minor-key artist, creating subdued drama out of commonplace subjects that invited narrative interpretations. Hopper produced 'Automat' in 1927 which portrays a lone woman staring into a cup of coffee in a fast food restaurant.
