Modern artist Jackson Pollock was a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement. Pollock was widely noticed for his "drip technique" of pouring or splashing liquid household paint onto a horizontal surface. Pollock produced ‘Number 4’ in 1951 and poured lines of yellow, black, and white onto a large canvas. He finished the painting with splatters of metallic silver and a silken finish, giving it a more elegant look than some of his other paintings.
